Methodology
Every number on TrueGG is calculated from review data that Steam makes public. No AI estimates are used. This page lists every rule and every limit.
Adjusted rating
We take up to 800 positive and 800 negative reviews separately. Each review gets a weight from the rules below. The average weight on each side is applied to Steam's official positive and negative counts, and the two are combined.
| Condition | Weight |
|---|---|
| Less than 2 hours of playtime when the review was written | 0.3 to 1.0 (lower for shorter play) |
| Very short text (under 8 characters in Chinese, Japanese or Korean; under 5 words otherwise) | 0.6 |
| Product key activated outside Steam | 0.8 |
| Game received for free | 0.7 |
| Account that owns very few games | 0.7 |
| Account with more than 100 reviews | 0.8 |
| "Helpful" votes from other users | 0.85 to 1.15 |
Positive and negative reviews are sampled separately so the way reviews are picked cannot skew the result. Each adjusted rating comes with a 95% range (bootstrap).
Rating by language
Calculated from Steam's public counts of positive and negative reviews written in that language. Fewer than 30 reviews is shown as a rough guide only.
Recency
The positive ratio of reviews posted in the last 30 and 180 days, compared with the all-time ratio.
Review bombing
Using Steam's public month-by-month history, we flag months where review volume rose to three times its usual level and the share of negative reviews jumped sharply. We do not guess the cause; we only show when it happened and how large it was.
Limits
- Users who were refunded cannot review a game, so refund rates cannot be analysed
- Private profiles show zero owned games, so zero alone never lowers a review's weight
- The monthly history can differ slightly from Steam's all-time totals
- Thresholds will be reviewed as more games are added. Any change is recorded on this page
